The last three weeks have been filled with so many adventures; I have had no time to blog. But this is all about my journey to Alabama, coming to my home sweet home, and being united with my husband again!
Saturday 14June14
I arrived in Alabama two weeks ago today, and I was just about to bounce right out of my seatbelt after crossing the state border, I was so excited. I was traveling with my mother and father in law and one crazy dog to see my husband graduate from Warrant Officer Candidate School.
Sunday 15June14
The next day I ventured to the base at Fort Rucker for the first time, and I fell in love. The entire base is full of bright green trees and it was a sight to see. The base is nothing like the Fort Carson or Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado (they are quite flat). I was so thrilled to be there, but I was more than excited to see my husband. We had been apart exactly two months. (I know that most spouses are away from their loved ones for much longer and I cannot image what that must be like. I was blessed that his training was only two months and I know a deployment is in the future…but for now I will just focus on the beautiful memories we are making today)
When I first saw him I was speechless, I had so many things I wanted to say to him but I was so excited I couldn’t. I just held him like there was no tomorrow.
Unfortunately on Sunday he had to return to the Barracks for two more days of classes, but I knew at that time that the separation would end soon.
Monday 16June14
Monday was filled with more fun activities (well, I thought they were fun, my husband thought otherwise). I got the opportunity to attend two classes with him. It was great to see what their life had been like for two months and it was great to learn about what they were studying in their courses. I took diligent notes!
Tuesday 17June14
On Tuesday had the opportunity to watch my husband lead PT. He had the highest score in his class and was named PRT officer on the first day. He also received an award that morning. I was so proud of him!
Early in the afternoon on Tuesday he was able to leave the barracks. It was a joy to wake up the next morning with my other half right next to me.
On Tuesday evening there was a small reception held at the event center on the base. It was fun to meet all of Kevin’s instructors, commanders, leaders, classmates and their spouses. They gave awards, showed videos from the courses, and some candidates gave speeches.
Wednesday 18June14
Wednesday was graduation, FINALLY. Kevin and I had to be up before the crack of dawn so he could report to formation. I dropped him off in the morning and went back to get ready for the graduation. I had the perfect dress picked out and I was more than excited to wear it. I thought it fit the 1940s look!
The graduation was short and sweet; I had the opportunity to pin on his rank on his shoulder. It was such an honor to do, except I could not get that rank on his uniform. It took me a good five minutest to actually put on (I was quite embarrassed, even though I was told it happens to everyone).
At the ceremony, when the National Anthem began to play, I started to cry...I was thinking about how incredibly lucky I am to live in this wonderful nation and what an honor it is to be married to a solider who defends it!
He is now officially a Warrant Officer, and I could not be more proud of his dedication and service.
We also got the keys to our house on that day; it was the icing on the cake. We unloaded the Penske with joy! After dinner with his family, we put the mattress on the floor and fell right to sleep, we were exhausted!
After Graduation….
The days after that were mainly putting the house together. We bought a couch, washer and dryer, and basic house stuff. We also went to Destin Beach, FL for a little R&R. We have spent the last week CrossFitting and finding our way in our new town. Although we will move in less than two years, I am excited to call this place our home for now. It is just the part of our crazy adventure!
Home Sweet Ft. Rucker, I am so happy to be here!
