Monday, March 24th, I was able to spend the day with my wonderful family! My mother (who is my best friend), my sister Brenna, my sister Erin, and my sister Ailise. There is also a brother in the mix, but he was not interested in going dress shopping (and who can blame him?).
My mother and I had a little spat when it came to “getting married. We resolved our issues, and even though I had already bought a dress, we felt the need to do some shopping. And that is what we did. Just like the old days, we had a day filled with shopping and wedding planning! What fun it was J
First, my mother gave me my “something old” for the wedding…it is the most beautiful wedding band that was my great grandmothers. My mom’s father, my Grandfather, was an inspiration (to me) all my life. His mother, my Great Grandmother, was an inspiration too. My mom told me her wonderful story after she gave me the ring.
My Great Grandmother came over from Germany at age 3. She decided to go to Michigan at age 18. It was an icy/cold day in Michigan, and the ferry got stuck in the ice. My Great-Grandmother was the first to get out of the boat and walk across the ice to Michigan. She was very brave, and her bravery has been an inspiration to me. She met my great-grandfather and they got married and had three kids, two boys and one girl (one being my grandfather). After my Great-Grandfather was killed, she raised all three kids by herself. She ended up moving back to Wisconsin after his death. She died when I was just two years old.
After the story telling (and a little bit of tears) we went to several different stores and I tried on dress after dress after dress! I finally decided to stick with my original choice. (So grate-full that it is prom season). She bought me shoes, and some other things to make my day special. The best thing she bought was a beautiful necklace. My mom told me the necklace was my “something new”, but to…me it represents my mother.
My best friend, my rock, my star. My mother always gives me the best advice, and she always puts others before herself. She is an amazing women and I am so blessed to have her as my mother. My mother is AMAZING! And even though we have our fights (like any mother and daughter do), we always find a way to resolve it. I do not know what I would do without my mother. And when I am in Alabama, I will have a necklace that will remind me of her every day. I am going to miss her a great deal.
This day was not about shopping, it was about re-bonding with my mother and having time to talk with her about this new journey I am about to embark on. She is a great women, I hope one day to be just like her.
This wedding is going to be so special, and even more so now because of her. I am so blessed. The Wedding is only six days away…I CANNOT CONTAIN MYSELF!
I am so glad my mother and I made up, that will probably be one of the best parts of this entire experience!
We made up…then we dressed up!
